Studying in the Russian department started me on the path to my career, and the faculty especially had a tremendous impact on me. It's not an exaggeration to say that I pursued a doctorate in Slavic linguistics just because I didn't want to stop learning about the ideas and approaches they introduced me to. Professor Dunkel's work with the Critical Languages Program (CLP) and LCTL pedagogy and administration really influenced me when I started my career at UCLA. I still turn to the CLP for information and materials. Finally, I try to emulate the faculty when working with graduate students. Based on their example, I try to always remember our students are our future colleagues.
