Instructor Dotton and her class "The Other Kazakhstan" report that their Abai poetry reading with fellow students from Nazarbayev University on April 6 was a huge success. Professor Albrecht Kressen (German Studies) attended the event and commented on the power of Abai's poetry: "Having been a guest professor at the L. N. Gumiljov Eurasian National University, Astana in May/June 2014, I was intrigued by the skyped class on the poet Abai, so I joined the class on We evening, April 6. Even though I was not familiar with his texts, I was deeply struck by the universal messages contained in his poems. Being a medievalist, working with such great poets as Walther von der Vogelweide, Marie de France, or philosophers as Boethius, I felt really moved how much we could communicate across time, cultures, religions, and space."

Congratulations to Instructor Dotton and her students on building bridges between Arizona and Kazakhstan through the power of poetry!
