Students from first-, second-, and third-year Russian joined together to organize University of Arizona's Maslenitsa festival on March 23, 2016. A popular holiday throughout Slavic lands, Maslenitsa celebrates the end of winter and marks the beginning of spring. Students in first-year Russian gave presentations on traditional Russian cuisine (in Russian!) while students in second-year taught popular games and dances to the crowd. Third-year students (shown in picture) cheered the audience with wonderful renditions of two Russian folktales. The Russian and Slavic Department congratulates all students who took part in the event! Special thanks to the School of International Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SILLC) for their generous support of the event.  The organizers also wish to thank the University of Arizona Student/Faculty Interaction Grants Program as well as the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies for their support of Maslenitsa.
